Q: What is your favorite thing about working at SHYFT?
A: My previous experience was mostly with interior remodels of existing spaces, so it has been interesting to learn about all the different types of SHYFT projects. Earlier this spring I was part of a team that performed community feasibility research to learn how we could better support services provided by the local government and local organizations. Meeting and interviewing community members to learn more about how we could help address their needs was an exciting new experience for me.
Q: What are some projects you are currently working on?
A: I am currently remodeling an office in New York City, and it has been a fun process to learn the industry standards and protocols in a location that is so different than the Midwest. I’m also helping a couple clients in downtown Des Moines with office space planning as they evaluate how to move forward in a post-pandemic, work-from-home office environment. We’re helping to review current trends and find the right fit for each space.
Q: What is the one thing you are most proud of since joining SHYFT?
A: Just coming to work willing to be flexible and collaborative with our team every day. I’m surrounded by a lot of talented people with a variety of skill sets, so it’s been great to learn and have so many resources in the office around me. Each week has provided me an opportunity to learn from my SHYFT colleagues and to meet more people in the industry in the Des Moines area. Des Moines is an exciting place to be right now!
Q: What are a few of your career highlights?
A: Prior to joining SHYFT, I worked for a health System in Kansas City. I was part of several projects that brought new technology and healthcare options to the community. Helping to open the Saint Luke’s Rehabilitation Institute in Overland Park, KS was a really great experience. The rehab facility was a significant addition to an existing hospital campus and features many unique features to support state-of-the art equipment and healthcare.
Q: Tell us something unique about you.
A: I’m a diehard Hawkeye sports fan! Even though it is not unique in Des Moines or the state of Iowa, it makes me unique in the SHYFT office! Iowa State tends to dominate the construction and design industry, so I am one of the only Hawkeyes in the office! I grew up visiting Iowa City and attending sporting events with my family. I attended the University of Iowa in the early 2010s and even worked for the athletic department for a short period. I remain very loyal to the sports teams and the educational programs! When I moved back to Iowa last year I was not prepared to be surrounded by so many Cyclones every day in the office!
Thanks, Drew, for all you do for the SHYFT team!
