Miami University wanted to create a centralized Career Services Department for the Middletown Regional Campus. The goals of the department were to enhance services to all students, integrate into all stages of the student life cycle, have visibility to students, space for employer interview sessions, and have a professional space for students and employers. SHYFT worked through multiple options with members of the current staff to come to a solution that would support the goals of the department. The new department is in a more centralized location within the building and visible from the main entrance into Johnston Hall. The renovation included demolition of three existing offices and taking over part of a corridor to accommodate the new department space. The Career Services department supports students in their job search efforts by providing them resources for resume writing, connecting them with employers and even providing wardrobe options. The entry includes full height glass in purposeful areas because current faculty want students to be able to see the interactions of other students and staff within the suite to encourage the use of what the department has to office. Construction was completed in a condensed three-month timeframe in order to be complete by the start of the 2019 fall semester.
